Bananas, caramel sauce, coconut cream, chocolate garnish… Heaven! Banoffee pie or "bananoffe" is an English UK dessert pie made from bananas, cream and toffee (made from boiled condensed milk, or dulce de leche), combined either on a pastry base or one made from crumbled biscuits and butter.Some versions of the recipe also include chocolate, coffee or both.
Its name, sometimes spelled "banoffi", is a portmanteau combining the words "banana" and "toffee".This homemade banoffee pie is one of our favourite desserts here at Carnation. This is our classic recipe using Carnation Condensed Milk to make a golden caramel and a crushed biscuit base. It’s an impressive party piece and an ever-popular dessert, but it’s also easy to make.
The best part is that it’s really easy to make and you don’t have to freeze it at all, you can cut a piece right away! (But it’s better cold).
It’s healthy, low in fat and currently definitely one of my favorites.
1. THE CRUST:
Mix walnuts in the food processor.
Then separately mix dates.
Add walnuts back into the processor and mix them together with dates.
Spread the crust into a pie or cake model and push it down with your hands.
2. CARAMEL SAUCE:
Mix date paste, vanilla powder and almond butter together.
Spread a tbsp or two onto the crust.
(You will have about ½ cup of leftovers, which you will use for the chocolate sauce.)
3. BANANA LAYER:
Cut the bananas into thin slices.
Spread onto the caramel sauce.
Make 3 layers of bananas and the sauce.
4. COCONUT CREAM:
Mix everything in a blender and spread on top of the pie.
5. CHOCOLATE SAUCE Bon Appétit:
Mix the leftovers from the caramel sauce with a tbsp or two of carob or cacao powder or Bon Appétit Chocolate, add a little bit of water, and garnish the pie.
